London mixologists have been working on a way to slash the sugar and make cocktail recipes ‘healthier’, by swapping fizzy and fruit juice mixers for vegetables.
So all in the name of research, Women’s Health caught up with Design My Night and a few of the top tipple creators, to get the low-down on this boozy new trend.
THE SHISO FINE
Oskar Kinberg, award winning mixologist at central London’s Oskar’s at Dabbous basement bar, has created the Shiso Fine. Blending tequila, green tea, celery and lime with Japanese herb shiso, the punchy cocktail is a source of vitamin C and the antioxidant coumarin.
Oskar’s at Dabbous, 39 Whitfield Street, Fitzrovia, London, W1T 2SF
TIME, SPACE AND HONEY
If you love sipping on something sweet, have no fear – mixologists at Artesian, recently voted the World’s Best Bar, have shaken something up using parsnips and honey, with Grey Goose vodka and champagne. The Time, Space and Honey cocktail contains minerals like iron and calcium thanks to the parsnips, while honey can help your body to absorb calcium. Semi-skimmed chaser?

Limit the damage of falling off the detox wagon with this (semi) cleansing cocktail, created by mixologists at Grain Store. A concoction of fennel, fennel pollen, apple juice and Prosecco, the herbal ingredients can help to eliminate bad breath and also facilitate digestion. Just don’t follow it up with a kebab.
Grain Store, Granary Square, 1-3 Stable Street, King’s Cross, London, N1C 4AB
FROM THE DEPTHS
Created by the geniuses at the Experimental Cocktail Club, this is an exotic mix of Kraken spiced rum, pressed beetroot juice, angostura bitters, lime and orgeat syrup. High in iron, folic acid and antioxidants, beetroot can help replenish minerals in your body and tackle anemia. But be warned, drink too much and your urine might turn a funny shade of pink.

THE PEA-TER RABBIT
A heady mixture of gin, green tea, anise infused with Noilly Prat, carrot shrub and a cheeky dash of absinthe, this zingy cocktail has been dreamt up by mixologists at Calloh Callay. Packed with vitamin, carrots can help you liver flush out unwanted toxins, which really couldn’t be more appropriate.
